George B. & George Lemmon, Jr. became the first four-time U.S. Father-Son Doubles champions in the tournament’s fifteenth year, while Lissen & Katie Tutrone topped the inaugural Mother-Daughter Open division, April 12-14, at the Round Hill Club and Field Club of Greenwich in Connecticut, and Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York.
Forty-nine teams competed across the six divisions: Father-Son Open, Century, U17, U15 and U13, and Mother-Daughter Open.
The fourteen-team Father-Son Open division saw the two most recent champions bow out early in the tournament. Defending champion Dominic & Josh Hughes bowed out in a tight five-game quarterfinal at the hands of William & Anthony Hartigan. 2017 champions and 2018 finalists, Charles & Henry Parkhurst, also exited the main draw in a five-game quarterfinal against Michael & Ezekiel Scherl.
The Lemmons overcame Andrew & Maxwell Orr in a five-game quarterfinal, before reaching the final in three games against the Hartigans in the semis. In the final, the Lemmons clinched the title against Rob & Robert Berner 15-11, 15-10, 15-10.
The 2019 title marks the Lemmons’ first since 2014, and fourth overall, adding to their 2011 and 2012 titles. With their fourth, the Lemmons surpass Chris & Carson Spahr and Steven & Greg Park, each of whom hold three national titles.
The 2019 tournament expanded with the inaugural Mother-Daughter division, which attracted seven partnerships across two pools. The top two seeds, Lissen & Katie Tutrone and Ella & Emily Lungstrum, both progressed to the finals without dropping a game in their respective pools. In the final, the Tutrones pulled off a perfect tournament by clinching the division without dropping a game 15-4, 15-4, 15-7.
The eldest division, the Father-Son Century, saw Clark & Preston Amos extend their incredible title record with a sixth consecutive title. The Amoses needed four games to win the final against two seeds, Scott & Will Simonton, 15-11, 13-15, 15-6, 15-13.
2018 15 & Under champions James & Jack Hewitt graduated to the U17 division this year, where they earned a second straight national title by topping the five-team table with four victories, dropping just one game all tournament.
Like the Hewitts, 2018 13 & Under champions Scott & Hudson Poirier moved up an age group to go on and win the 2019 U15 title without dropping a game.
Competing in their first Father-Son championship, Andrew & Xan Matuch achieved four, 3-0 victories to lift the U13 title in their tournament debut.
