Weaver to Face World No. 1 Gohar in ToC Semifinals

Team USA’s Olivia Weaver will face world No. 1 Nouran Gohar for the thirteenth time in her career in the semifinals of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions Wednesday, January 29, in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal.

The American world No. 4 has been in top form all tournament, reaching her second career semifinal without dropping a game all tournament and fulfilling her four seeding. Weaver reached the last four with a straight games win over world No. 5 Tinne Gilis Monday afternoon in front of the home crowd.

Weaver now enters her second match up of the season against the top seed in search of her first win against the Egyptian. Weaver and Gohar met each other in the Qatar Classic last October where the American pushed Gohar to four games in nearly an hour.

Weaver is in the best form of the career and has only lost five matches all season–all of which were against the world’s top two players. Weaver will hope to harness the support of the home crowd Wednesday afternoon at 5pm ET.
