US Squash is committed to providing meaningful experiences and a fair environment to all competitors at accredited tournaments. In service of this and to enhance the level of refereeing at tournaments, junior players will be required to pass their age-appropriate referee certification exam in order to register for tournaments beginning this summer.

Starting on July 1, 2018, players must have passed the appropriate referee exam to participate in Gold level tournaments and starting on September 5, 2018, this requirement will apply for participation in Silver, Gold, JCT, and National Championship level tournaments. Players must be certified at the age they will be at the time of the tournament; for example, a player who will be sixteen years old at the time of a tournament must pass the Under 17 referee exam prior to submitting his or her online entry.

Further, starting on the September 5, 2018 rankings calculation, players will be required to pass the correct age appropriate referee exam in order to receive and maintain a national junior ranking. Therefore, players will need to recertify with a new referee exam every two years as they move into older age divisions. No action is currently needed for any player who has already passed the age-appropriate exam.

Players can find a record of all referee certifications on their player profiles in the ‘Affiliations/Certifications’ tile. Please refer to the below table that outlines which exam is needed by players at each age.
