Spizzirri and Huang Set for National Singles Semifinal Debuts; Top Four Women Advance

Nick Spizzirri (L) and Sabrina Sobhy

The 2025 U.S. Women’s and S.L. Green U.S. Men’s Championships semifinals are set following eight quarterfinal matches Wednesday, June 18, at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.

The men’s draw will feature two debut semifinalists in Nick Spizzirri and Dillon Huang. Both Spizzirri and Huang faced repeat match ups of the recent World Championships Qualifiers in April.

Spizzirri replicated his win against the higher-seeded Spencer Lovejoy in an exciting five-game encounter to advance 9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 11-5 in sixty-seven minutes. Spizzirri will face world No. 64 Shahjahan Khan in the semifinals after the two seed defeated eighteen-year-old Rohan Gondi.

Huang avenged his World Championships qualifier loss against Salim Khan in a dominant 3-0 win and will face defending champion Timmy Brownell in the semifinals.

Both Sobhy sisters marked welcome returns to the U.S. Championships semifinals. Sabrina Sobhy, the 2014 national champion, marked her first competitive appearance since September after a lengthy injury hiatus this season with two wins on her way to the semis. Sobhy dispatched world No. 88 Laila Sedky 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 in twenty-six minutes to set up a semifinal against world No. 4 and top seed Olivia Weaver.

Amanda Sobhy, a six-time national champion, missed out on the 2024 nationals due to her second career Achilles injury, but has returned to top form following successful comeback season. Sobhy, world No. 10 and former Harvard No. 1, dispatched current Harvard No. 2 Caroline Fouts 11-6, 11-2, 11-7.

Sobhy, the two seed, will clash with three seed Marina Stefanoni in the semifinals after the newly-minuted world No. 25 defeated her younger sister and Harvard No. 3, Lucie, in straight games.

Thursday’s semifinal session begins at 7pm ET. Tickets are available at the Specter Center doors and on ussquash.org/usschampionships. Watch a live stream broadcast on ussquash.org/live.
