The Community Squash Initiative will grow the sport through a focus on making squash accessible to everyone by cultivating an inclusive culture that values and builds community. Entrepreneurs are paving the way with community-oriented program models within current facilities and by promoting new community squash facilities serving growing and diverse constituents.

US Squash will:

  • Organize and support local leaders in developing community squash models and create a network of Community Affiliate partners to share best practices;
  • Support coaches and teaching professionals to develop small footprint squash facilities and engage college graduates, and other volunteers to serve as local catalysts;
  • Increase community access opportunities across private membership facilities by supporting private facilities that broaden their access and outreach and increase accessibility and usage at existing institutional facilities (colleges, schools);
  • Expand the geographic availability of squash facilities by promoting the co-location of courts in public schools, parks and rec centers, YMCAs, by providing resources and knowledge to underdeveloped squash regions, and exploring mixed use sports facilities, i.e. badminton, tennis, table tennis, pickleball.

The Women & Girls Initiative will set a new standard in the promotion of women and girls in squash with programs and practices, access and opportunity, mentorships and role models, resulting in renewed, inclusive player development mindset for all.

  • Develop, pilot, promote and fund program models focused on introducing squash to girls;
  • Introduce professional training and certifications, including training and education modules for reaching women and girls and engaging them in squash for the long term;
  • Recruit, train and support female coaches and volunteers in support of driving participation at all levels, from beginner and club-based, to individuals and teams, all the way to the national and world level;
  • Relentlessly seek to promote the amazing stories of females in squash and women into leadership roles in squash.

The Middle and High School Team Squash Initiative will deepen junior player engagement by expanding scholastic squash (varsity, JV, instructional) and dramatically expand opportunities for juniors to experience the benefits of competing on a team.

  • Promote, seed and support structured opportunities for private and public school junior players to form scholastic teams to compete locally, regionally and nationally;
  • Leverage the growth of middle and high school teams to expand District and League-based competition to expand scholastic squash into the broadest range of geographies;
  • Obtain recognition squash as a varsity sport by a State Board of Education drawing public resources into supporting and expanding access to public school team squash.

The Collegiate Squash Initiative will expand scholar-athlete opportunities at colleges and universities. US Squash, in partnership with the College Squash Association (CSA), will:

  • Organize and support focused and targeted efforts to form new programs and convert club programs to varsity status per institution and per league;
  • Create and support recreational squash activity on college campuses, i.e. Squash on Campus, to support the development of emerging teams and promote squash in targeted workplaces, i.e. courts, ladders on corporate tech campuses across the country.
  • Recruit, train and support female coaches to achieve leadership positions and provide continuing education to varsity collegiate coaches on promoting squash within their institutions.

  • Link local and regional affiliates with the National Coaching staff and the Specter Center in a process of talent identification and high-performance programming;
  • Fund centralized national squads at the Specter Center on a quarterly basis for the top 10 juniors from each of the eight regions to eliminate barriers to pursuing excellence for all;
  • Offer and require all U.S. based coaches to re-certify annually with continuing education modules, including those with a focus on sportsmanship, character, officiating, and women and girls;
  • Increase resources supporting referee training and education for all participants and officials and develop a network of junior parent mentors in support of the principles of good sportsmanship.
