The 2022 U.S. Parent Child Doubles Championships produced repeat champions in the form of Scott & Hudson Poirer and Xan & Andrew Matuch, while Ilya & Maya Voloshin won the inaugural parent-child division and Robert & Robby Berner earned their first Open title Sunday April 24, at the Field Club of Greenwich and Round Hill Club in Greenwich, Connecticut.
The Father-Son Open appropriately culminated in a final contested by members of both tournament host clubs, the Field Club’s Robert & Robby Berner and Round Hill Club’s Dana & Peter Santry. The Open division saw the top two seeds both crash out in their first match, as ten seeds Andrew & Maxwell Orr upset two seeds Charles & Henry Parkhurst, and eight seeds Edward & Hayes Murphy upset top seeds George & BG Lemmon. Both the Orrs and Maxwells progressed to the semifinals where they would fall against the Berners and Santrys. The Berners then prevailed in the final, defeating the Santrys 15-12, 15-11, 7-15, 15-10.
One of the most active players of the tournament was Ilya Voloshin, who reached two finals with both his daughter, Maya, in the Parent-Child division, and son, Marc, in the Father-Son 15 & Under division. Ilya & Maya won the inaugural Parent-Child national title dropping just one game to top the round robin with David & Kaitlyn Vahlsing placing second.
Ilya & Marc went on to reach the 15 & Under final, falling short against Xan & Andrew Matuch. The Matuchs celebrated their second Father-Son national title with a perfect title run of three, 3-0 wins.
Scott & Hudson Poirier marked their third consecutive Father-Son national title in their third different division. Their first 17 & Under title was narrowly decided by one more game won than runners up W. & Bradley Roberts.
