762 of the world’s top juniors representing forty-three countries are set to compete in the world’s largest junior individual squash tournament–the 2019 U.S. Junior Open–December 14-17 at Harvard, MIT, Northeastern and Andover in the greater Boston area.
The four-day tournament will crown ten champions across boys’ and girls’ U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 divisions. Junior players and parents interested in learning more about the U.S. college squash system are encouraged to attend College Squash Association information sessions on Saturday, December 14. David Poolman, CSA Executive Director, will be presenting at 10:30am and 12:30pm at the Murr Lounge on the third floor of Harvard’s Murr Center. Topics to be covered include the state of college squash, an overview of the recruitment process and what the coaches are looking out for. The 12:30pm session will be live streamed here.
Last year, Egypt and Team USA led the field with five and three titles, respectively, while England and India each captured one. Of the ten 2018 champions, seven return in search of more U.S. Junior Open success.
Three-time U.S. junior champion Marina Stefanoni returns to the U.S. Junior Open in search of a remarkable sixth-consecutive U.S. Junior Open title. The two-time defending GU19 champion enters the tournament as the top seed with Egypt’s 2018 GU17 champion Nouran Youssef opposing Stefanoni in the draw as the two seeds. 2019 U.S. junior Open champion Olivia Robinson will be in search of her first GU19 title as the draw’s three seed.
A first-time BU19 champion is guaranteed. England’s Sam Todd heads the BU19 field as the top seed and will be in search of his fourth U.S. Junior Open title having won the U13 in 2015, U15 in 2016 and U17 in 2018. India’s Yash Fadte, the 2017 BU17 champion, is seeded second and England’s Max Forster, third. Team USA’s Thomas Rosini and Nicholas Spizzirri will aim to upset the top three seeds as the four and five seeds, respectively.
