Mullaney & Sobhy Lift Maiden Mixed Doubles Trophy; Humber & Belknap McKee Defend 40+ Title

The fifty-first U.S. Mixed Doubles Championships produced first time Open division champions in the form of Ryan Mullaney & Sabrina Sobhy, May 17-19, at the University Club of Boston.

Mullaney, a Franklin & Marshall graduate, and Sobhy, a graduating Harvard senior, slotted into the eight-team draw as the two seeds, while defending champion Shirin Kaufman and new partner William Hartigan led the draw as top seeds.

Both sides progressed to the final without dropping a game, defeating the three and four seeds in the semifinals. In the final, Mullaney & Sobhy mounted a five-game comeback from two games down to upset the top seeds 12-15, 13-15, 15-13, 15-6, 15-11.

Charlie Humber & Mary Belknap McKee successfully defended their 40+ title without dropping a game, topping the four-team round robin.

Christina Brownell & Doug Lifford earned their first Mixed Doubles title in the 50+ division. The Boston-natives dethroned Sara Luther & David Posner with a three-game win, while holding off five-game and four-game challenges from Karen Arango & Joseph Purrazzella and Beth Rasin & Mike Riley, respectively.
