Coach Pass FAQ's
- Why is this new program being launched?
- None of the elements of Coach Pass are new, they are all being brought together under one umbrella program to make it easier to identify gaps in outstanding requirements and support coaches and pros in their professional endeavors.
- Why is there suddenly a charge for all of this?
- US Squash evaluated the support and professional development programs we had in place and recognized it was considerable yet not unified or easy to access. We also have had extensive new requirements put on us by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee and U.S. Center for SafeSport. Finally, the health and well-being of the squash community is a priority for US Squash and the program will help us support coaches and pros in meeting this need.
- What will the fees charged be used for then?
- US Squash has been paying to support these various programs from its operations and through fundraising. Coaches and pros pay the fees which will be used to help partially offset the personnel cost to support the program, develop training and education modules and ensure compliance. The coaches and pros then benefit from the programs provided.
- Why is the Coach Pass program needed at all?
- Because US Squash is a member of the USOPC and therefore affiliated with the U.S. Center for SafeSport, they require us to hold our professionals to a certain standard of training and education and hold us accountable for doing so. In the end, this is in service to the community, in providing a safe environment for all participants, with the added benefit of training and education specific to being a teaching professional or coach.
- What is considered a Junior accredited tournament?
- Junior accredited tournaments include the new “USR Series” (Universal Squash Rating) and the standard point-based Gold, Silver and Bronze level tournaments.
- What is the difference between Junior accredited tournament and JCTs and National Championships?
- JCTs and National Championships are all accredited, however they are the highest level of competition and operated by US Squash directly.
- Do middle or high school coaches need to be part of Coach Pass? What about SEA program coaches?
- Yes, middle and high school coaches are expected to be Coach Pass Lite members, which only requires US Squash membership (sign up includes the Code of Conduct), and being Safe Sport trained.
- I am a volunteer Tournament Director (TD), does Coach Pass apply to me?
- Yes, to be an accredited TD, you need to be Coach Pass Premium.
- If I am coaching my child, do I need to be a Coach Pass member?
- You do not if you are only coaching your child. However, if you are the coach of other juniors as well, you must be at least Coach Pass Basic to coach at Junior accredited tournaments.
- How will Coach Pass membership be monitored and tracked?
- Coaches will be sent a digital membership card which will show their Coach Pass membership tier and their status. On entry to a junior accredited tournament, coaches will be asked to show their pass to the tournament staff.
- Do I have to do all of this annually to remain in Coach Pass?
- Membership fees are annual
- Safe Sport training must be refreshed annually
- CPR/First Aid training/refresher is generally every other year.
- All other requirements are just needed once, however taking at least one Continuing Education Modules will likely be required each year in the future.
- What is a Continuing Education Module, is it required and how much does it cost?
- These are new online and in-person training modules currently being developed. Continuing education sessions will cover topics helpful to coaches and pros including engaging Women and Girls’ programming, running middle and high school programming, community squash programming, club program development and management, rules, officiating and sportsmanship modules.
- Access to these modules will be available free of charge for Coach Pass Premium. There will be a fee to take modules for Lite and Basic members.
- There is not currently a requirement to take a Continuing Education Module to maintain your Coach Pass status.
