US Squash and NUSEA partner closely and have since NUSEA’s founding in 2005. US Squash President & CEO Kevin Klipstein has served on NUSEA’s Board of Directors since that time. Having provided more than $100, 000 in grants to new and emerging programs, US Squash also provides extensive value-in-kind services including waiving membership fees for all urban squash participants, 50% discounts on all competitions, and the waiving of all accreditation fees for events. US Squash also manages the NAO/GO Scholarship Fund which uses money raised from the Greenwich professional tournaments to provide more than $20, 000 annually in scholarship funding to urban squash participants attending secondary school or college. The Urban Doubles Championships is fully funded and hosted by US Squash, providing top urban players the opportunity to learn the doubles game during a week-long camp in Denver each summer.
The Catherine E. Chirls Scholarship Fund was established to promote squash among New York City’s urban youth. It is a three-way partnership among StreetSquash, Universal Squash Camps and US Squash. Since 2002, StreetSquash has selected two outstanding students who demonstrate exemplary leadership skills and a unique commitment to the game each year. Recipients attend a week of Universal Squash Camps in Lee-On-Solent, England, where they train intensively to improve their game and broaden their life perspectives. Gifts to the Catherine E. Chirls Scholarship Fund contribute to an endowment that provides travel and living expenses for two StreetSquash students at Universal Squash Camps for one week each year.
Catherine, a native New Yorker and devoted squash parent, passed away in the September 11th tragedy. Her friends and family created the fund to honor her love of squash and support of the game. The scholarship has had an enormous impact on the lives of those selected, and US Squash is proud of this partnership and looks forward to continuing this support.
