John Flanigan, the athletic director at the University Club of Chicago, will receive the 2018 President’s Cup on Tuesday February 26 during a ceremony held at the PSA World Championships on the glass court in Chicago’s Union Station.
The award will be presented by Kevin Klipstein, president & CEO of US Squash. The President’s Cup is the highest individual award bestowed by US Squash, recognizing members of the squash community who have made exceptional, sustained and impactful contributions to the game.
Flanigan has been at the forefront of innovation of squash in the U.S. for the past quarter century. He has guided the University Club of Chicago program through a period of consistent excellence and growth. Flanigan has been the tournament director of the U.S. Open and more recently the Windy City Open, turning it into one of the most important, well-produced and lucrative events on the professional tour. Flanigan’s leadership, in partnership with sponsorship from the Chicago-based Walter family, brought the 2019 PSA World Championships to Chicago—the first professional squash tournament to award a $1 million prize purse.
The ceremony will take place after conclusion of the 6:30pm match. Tickets can be purchased at psaworldchampionships.com.
The President’s Cup has been given out annually since 1966. Recent honorees include Ted Price in 2015, Maria Toorpakai in 2016 and Nancy Cushman in 2017.
