With the start of the squash season most players are looking to renew their equipment. We are here to help. You probably know that the most important piece of equipment in your bag are your SQUASH SHOES. After all, you can always borrow a racquet…
It is important to understand that squash shoes usually last between 100-200 play hours. For example, if you play every day for about an hour, the shoes should last you about 3-5 months, depending on the quality and type of the shoe, and your style of play. Athletic footwear padding is made from EVA foam, and that padding degrades through constant compression. The shoes may look OK on the outside, but if you can feel the floor when you plant you heel hard–it’s time for a new pair.
Here’s some squash shoes wisdom that should help:
Squash/indoor court shoes have to fit snug. They are soft and will expand through constant starts and stops as you play in them. You should be able to reach the end of the shoes with your toes when you try them on in your athletic socks. If there is too much room, you can hurt your toes on sudden stops. The right width is also important, you do not want your foot to move in the shoes when you move laterally. We have seen enough players get injured from wearing misfitting shoes.
