Jahanzeb Khan Recognized with USOPC Developmental Coach of the Year Award at World Juniors

US Squash Chief Program Officer Kim Clearkin (L) presented the award to Khan (R) during the WSF World Junior Championships

Jahanzeb Khan, a squash coach, promoter and founder of the Houston Squash Club, was recognized as the 2024 US Squash nominee for the USOPC Developmental Coach of the Year Award as the HSC hosted the WSF World Junior Squash Championships Thursday, July 18.

The USOPC Developmental Coach of the Year nominee is a coach of a youth club, or high school, or a coach directly responsible for coaching athletes at the junior and/or elite level.

Khan, a native of Pakistan, has played an instrumental role in developing Houston into a squash hotbed. Khan spearheaded the founding of the Houston Squash Club in 2021, and the facility has now hosted the prestigious WSF World Junior Squash Championships, PSA Gold professional events and the first JCT to ever be held in Texas. Khan’s program has both produced national-caliber juniors, and provided new opportunities for juniors in the region to compete nationally. The Houston Squash Club scholastic hybrid team has won national titles at the National Interscholastic Championships since its inception in 2019.

“Honored to receive the Developmental Coach of the Year award from US Squash,” Khan said. “Being recognized in front of my community makes it even more special. We will continue to work together to advance the sport and bring out the best in up-and-coming coaches and players. Grateful for our supportive community’s contributions to our success.”
