Six Americans represented Team USA at the 2018 Karakal British Open Masters, June 5-10, at Colets, a club in Thames Ditton on the southwestern edge of London.
Three-time 45+ champion Hope Prockop made the farthest run of the Americans, reaching her first 50+ final where she fell just short of her top seeding, falling 15-9 in the fifth after fifty-one minutes.
The U.S. had more success in plate play, which yielded two victories. Will Carlin recorded three wins on his way to claiming the Men’s 55+ plate, dropping just one game along the way in the final.
In the men’s 80+, Edward Bulingame won the plate in a three-game final. Canadian international and National Singles 75+ champion Gerry Poulton reached the men’s 75+ final as a 3/4 seed, losing out in a five-game final against the two seed.
In the men’s 45+, Galen Le Cheminant reached the semifinals as a 5/8 seed, which included an upset over a 3/4 seed in the quarterfinals. Le Cheminant then exited the draw against the two seed in a four-game semifinal.
In the men’s 55+, Richard Millman recorded a first round victory before losing in the second round in four games against a 5/8 seed. In the men’s 70+, Bert Kornyei lost two five-gamers in the main draw and in the plate semifinals.
