About SquashBridge
SquashBridge, a unique athletic, educational, and community center in Bridgeport, will offer an intensive Squash and Education Alliance (SEA) youth development program and serve as a community squash club for local players, families, and schools. The 15,000 square foot facility, currently under construction and scheduled to open in Fall 2025, will boast 8 international squash courts (including 1 outdoor court), classrooms, a library, and offices.By removing the barriers to accessing the game of squash, SquashBridge will greatly enrich the lives of local children and create a thriving squash community for all ages. SquashBridge’s dedicated coaching staff will offer programming for all ages and levels, including a nationally competitive training program for our most dedicated athletes. As a regional SEA hub, SquashBridge will also host various SEA events.
About the Position
SquashBridge is seeking an experienced Squash Director who will be responsible for the oversight of all squash programming at SquashBridge, both for the SEA program and for the community club. This includes and is not limited to a commitment to developing high achieving squash players in the after-school program, managing staff, organizing squash tournaments and events while creating an inclusive squash environment where there is a mixture of adults and students not dissimilar to that found in many squash clubs around the world. The Director of Squash will play a crucial role in promoting the sport, increasing participation for emerging high school and college teams in the area while remaining committed to enhancing the overall experience for players of all levels.
Key Responsibilities Program Development and Management
- Design and implement squash programs for the after school program (3rd to 5th graders).
- Create opportunities for SquashBridge to be a venue for the broader squash community from the surrounding area to to interact and compete with other members of the squash community. The time commitment required for this component of the program is as follows:
- Foster students’ athletic, academic, and personal growth through targeted programming and strong relationship-building.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students.
- Work with the Program Director to address student, caregivers, and staff members inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and effectively.
Staff Management
- Recruit, train, and manage a team of squash coaches and volunteer coaches.
- Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage for all programs and events.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations.
Budget Management
- Develop and manage the squash program budget.
- Monitor expenses and revenues to ensure financial sustainability of the community squash club
- Identify opportunities for revenue growth, such as club memberships structure, tournament revenue and season school programs.
Community Outreach
- Build relationships with local schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Develop outreach programs to introduce squash to new audiences
- Maintain US Squash Community Affiliate status.
- Oversee free programming to SquashBridge families and SEA Alumni.
- Provide consistent weekly programming for the community.
Event Coordination
- Be the main point of contact for tournaments and any external group activities.
Facility Management
- Ensure the squash courts and related facilities are well-maintained and safe.
- Coordinate with the Facilities Manager for repairs and upgrades as needed.
- Manage the inventory of equipment and supplies.
Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in squash coaching, program management and staff management.
Certifications: Certified level 2 or higher coaching certification (preferred). CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Coaching Skills:
- Understanding of squash technique, rules and strategy.
- Significant experience playing, teaching and developing high level squash players..
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of participants, staff, and community members.
- Be passionate and have a commitment and experience with youth or in youth development.
Administrative Skills:
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, members, and external partners.
- Proficiency in using technology for program management and promotion
Working Conditions
- Environment: The Squash Director will work primarily in the SquashBridge facility at 1491 Main Street, Bridgeport, CT
- Hours: This role requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays based on program and event schedules.
- Physical Requirements: The position involves physical activity, including playing squash, demonstrating techniques, and moving equipment.
- Driving: Valid Driver’s license and comfort/ability to drive vans.
Reporting Structure
- The Squash Director reports to the Executive Director, and works closely with the Program Director, Operations and Finance Director.
- This position may have direct reports including assistant coaches and club manager
Candidates should be prepared for work outside of traditional hours. The Squash Director will also expect to attend certain events (fundraisers, eg)
Compensation: $60,000 – $75,000 plus incentives for club program building and coaching, Benefits include 20 days paid time off, health insurance, and certain other benefits.
