The University Club of Washington, D.C. is one of America’s oldest and finest private, member-owned clubs. Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, The University Club was founded in 1904 and is one of the nation’s most historic city clubs. It has the honor of consistently being recognized as a Distinguished Club of the World and was most recently ranked #14 among the nation’s Top 50 Best City Clubs in America by Platinum Clubs of America. Just three blocks from the White House, the Club contains seven indoor and outdoor dining venues, 60 guest rooms, two squash courts, one pool, one full-service day spa, a newly renovated fitness complex, and special event venues. Position Summary: The University Club of Washington, DC is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Squash Professional and Program Manager to lead and grow the club’s vibrant squash community. This dynamic role encompasses both on-court coaching and program management responsibilities, ensuring the club’s squash offerings remain top-tier and engaging for members of all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
Squash Coaching & Player Development:
- Deliver individual and group coaching sessions tailored to players’ needs.
- Develop personalized training plans to enhance player skills and squash fitness.
- Lead skills-based clinics and workshops that promote injury prevention, fitness, and camaraderie.
- Stay current with industry trends and coaching certifications.
Program Development:
- Sustain and innovate existing squash offerings, including clinics, lessons, and social play.
- Manage and grow league play, both in-house and with local league teams (e.g., Squash on Fire, National Capital Squash League).
- Organize and oversee squash tournaments, including annual events like Club Championships and the Mosquito Open.
- Develop a junior squash program and cultivate a welcoming community for ladies’ squash.
- Collaborate with the Squash Committee to strengthen the program’s presence at the club.
Member Engagement:
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all members.
- Drive engagement through varied programming tailored to all player types.
- Communicate regularly about events, lessons, and tournaments.
- Organize social events that build camaraderie and enhance the squash community.
Facility & Equipment Management:
- Ensure squash courts and equipment are well-maintained and safe for use.
- Oversee Club Locker usage, including player onboarding and match play.
- Advise on equipment needs and maintain a fully stocked pro shop.
- Administrative & Program Management:
- Manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and staff management (if applicable).
- Develop marketing strategies to attract and retain participants.
- Keep accurate records of program participants and their progress.
Safety & Rules Enforcement:
- Enforce safety standards and etiquette on the squash courts.
- Promote sportsmanship and address any behavioral concerns promptly.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience as a squash professional, full or part-time.
- US Squash or equivalent coaching certification (preferred).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (required prior to starting employment).
