Apawamis’ Pilley & Hansen Earn Maiden Mixed Doubles Title on Home Courts

Cameron Pilley & Line Hansen–former PSA touring professionals, active SDA professionals and husband and wife–earned their first Mixed Doubles national title on their home courts Sunday, May 19, at the Apawamis Club in Rye, New York.

The Apawamis-based Hansen, SDA No. 9, & Pilley, SDA No. 11, made their Mixed Doubles debut together as the Open draw’s two seeds and progressed to the finals with two 3-0 wins in the quarterfinals over Father & Daughter duo Marty & Pippa Clark and semifinals over three seeds James Stout & Lauren West. Hansen & Pilley met top seeds and fellow SDA professionals Zac Alexander & Elani Landman in the finals, and pulled off a five-game comeback to win the title 14-15, 15-11, 8-15, 15-7, 15-5.

Dave Rosen & Mary Belknap McKee successfully defended their 50+ national title. Rosen & McKee defeated top seeds and runners up Ed Chilton & Phoebe Trubowitz 3-1 in the decisive match 15-8, 15-11, 14-15, 15-11. Belknap McKee adds to her 2023 50+ title and two 40+ titles, while Rosen adds to his 2023 50+ title and Open and four 40+ titles.

Thomas Harrity & Kathryn Grant won their first Mixed Doubles title together in the 60+ division. Harrity & Grant defeated defending champions Susan Greene & Joe Purrazzella to top the round robin 15-7, 13-15, 15-8, 15-4. Harrity marks his fifth Mixed Doubles title, adding to his two 50+ and two 40+ titles, while Grant earns her third, adding to her 50+ and 40+ titles.

Purrazzella would go on to win the B division with Charlotte Shropshire, defeating top seeds Hope Crosier & Josh Horwitz in a four-game final. Aerlyn & Clara Dawn took the C title with two 3-0 wins in the round robin.
