Nancy Gengler-Saint was an outstanding player and coach who epitomized sportsmanship. After picking up squash at Princeton, she won the National Intercollegiate Individuals as a sophomore, reached two more finals and led the Tigers to four national team titles. With her fluid movement and unmatched racquet work, Gengler-Saint excelled at both hardball and softball. Four times she made at least the semifinals of the National Singles for hardball and won numerous pro events across the continent, including the Tournament of Champions in 1987 and 1988. She captured 1989 National Singles in softball, as well as two Hyder Cups, and she played for Team USA at five Women’s World Teams. As a teaching pro in New York, she was renowned for her energy and compassion and as a competitor for her fair play and fellowship—in 1983 she was given the Women’s Sportsmanship Award. In 1995 Gengler-Saint was elected to the College Squash Association Hall of Fame.
