Country Club of New Canaan Seeks Head Squash Professional

The Country Club of New Canaan, founded in 1893 and located in New Canaan, CT is seeking a highly qualified man or woman as a full-time Head squash professional to oversee the CCNC Squash Program and implement policies and procedures as set forth by the CCNC Board and General Manager.

This is a 12-month, fulltime position and the charge is to promote the game of squash within the family- oriented Club membership by providing squash lessons, clinics and other events and activities for all levels, ages, and abilities. This includes introducing members to squash who have never played the game. It also involves running tournaments, coaching players and teams, putting on clinics and ensuring a balance of competitive and social play and interaction.

The person hired for this position must also be a good spokesperson for the game of squash within the New Canaan community and must engage other local constituencies and maintain a dialogue with other Fairfield County and Westchester Country Clubs.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the CCNC Squash program.

Provide quality programs as required and to teach or have qualified staff teach juniors, adults, competitive players and beginners – players at all levels, age 4 and up – in line with the unique culture that distinguishes the Country Club of New Canaan. This should include offering a summer camp program for junior members.

Attend meetings hosted by the CCNC Squash Committee and by the CCNC general manager. Provide guidance, support, and direction to the committee and to the Club based on professional experience, tournament experience and general familiarity with various elements and fine points of the game.

Work with the CCNC General Manager, CCNC Squash Committee, CCNC Board to identify budget requirements and to be accountable for the management of departmental expenses.

Assist the CCNC Squash Committee and general manager in planning squash-related social events. Attend and assist with social functions as required.

Work with the CCNC Squash Committee to update Rules and Procedures as needed. Help ensure that CCNC rules pertaining to general safety, eye protection, dress, court usage protocols, etc. are enforced.

Promote, foster, and maintain good relations between staff and members, and with other CCNC departments.

Manage and stock Pro Shop as an amenity for members; offer racquet stringing as required.

Coordinate and administer league play, ladders, round robins, club championships and other CCNC- sponsored tournaments. Assist with the promotion of all CCNC programs and activities.

Responsible for training, supervision, and performance of other staff (assistant professionals) relating to the Squash program and promoting staff adherence to CCNC Policies.

Prepare and issue all necessary reports, submissions and other administrative items as requested by CCNC management or the CCNC Squash Committee.

Work with the CCNC General Manager and Squash Committee to ensure the squash courts and related facilities are in excellent condition; recommend repairs, enhancements, and modifications as applicable to maintain our top-flight facility. Ensure that all trophies and awards for events are ordered, engraved and that recognition boards are maintained and are up to date.

Advise CCNC regarding planned expansion of the facility to better serve the membership and engage with the New Canaan Community through interaction with New Canaan Squash and local schools.

Monitor CCNC communication deadlines and generate appropriate communications, updates, announcements, etc., promoting the various components of the program.

Maintain frequent and transparent communication between CCNC and other clubs, also with the USSRA and the sport’s national governing bodies. Attend networking and professional development events to stay at the forefront of the squash world.

CCNC Squash seeks to engage the New Canaan Community and to promote squash within the Town, working closely with the Director of New Canaan Squash, local schools, etc.

If appropriate and deemed to be in the interest of the Club, facilitate having CCNC be a venue for USSRA-sponsored tournaments and events.
